A new website for the Ghost eShop ecosystem

After more than five years without a major redesign, ghosteshop.com becomes a unified gateway to Ghost eShop, its supported consoles, official guides and the wider Ghost Land ecosystem.

Hello everyone 👋

After more than five years without a major redesign, ghosteshop.com has a completely new look.

Ghost eShop has changed enormously during that time. What began as a focused Nintendo 3DS distribution system has grown into a multi-platform project supported by new services, applications and infrastructure. The old website no longer reflected what the project had become, so it was time to rebuild it around the Ghost eShop of today and the ecosystem we are creating for tomorrow.

The new website is more than a visual refresh. It is now the main entry point for understanding Ghost eShop, choosing the right path for your console, checking compatibility and reaching the official resources behind every service.

The ultimate ecosystem for your modified consoles.
A unified gateway to the new 3DS infrastructure, Ghost eShop NX, official guides and the entire Ghost Land universe.

One portal, several console worlds

Ghost eShop is no longer a simple catalog. It connects the tools, infrastructure and communities that keep each supported platform alive.

The redesigned homepage gives every console family a clear place within the ecosystem:

  • Nintendo 3DS / 2DS: the new generation built around 3DServer and freeShop, with native access designed for the console;
  • Nintendo DS / DSi: a future path centered on freeShop Nitro Edition, currently in development;
  • Nintendo Switch: Ghost eShop NX, with the Public catalog and support for compatible clients such as Tinfoil and CyberFoil;
  • Nintendo Wii / Wii U: the planned Ghost Land Legacy Portal for established homebrew environments including Aroma, Tiramisu and BootMii.

Each section shows the current availability of the platform, the infrastructure behind it and the most relevant next step. Instead of having to understand the entire project before getting started, visitors can simply choose their system and follow the route made for it.

The redesign also makes the structure behind the project easier to understand.

Ghost Land is the wider ecosystem. The Ghost Land Team develops and operates the core server infrastructure, shared APIs and preservation systems. It is also responsible for the official freeShop clients across 3DS, DS and Switch.

Ghost eShop is the alternative catalog and repository platform built on top of that infrastructure. Its content and day-to-day catalog operations are managed separately by the Ghost eShop Team.

Ghost eShop Pro is the premium service for advanced users. It provides access to dedicated high-speed infrastructure, multi-client synchronization, priority support, content requests and remote management from a computer or mobile browser. Its support also helps fund the infrastructure used by the wider ecosystem and its free services.

These projects work together, but they do not have the same responsibilities. The new website gives each one a visible and understandable role.

Compatibility before configuration

Different consoles require different custom firmware, applications and setup methods. The new compatibility page brings that information into one hardware matrix.

For every supported or planned platform, it identifies:

  • the required environment, such as Luma3DS, Atmosphère, Aroma, Tiramisu or BootMii;
  • the backend used by the platform;
  • the compatible official and third-party clients;
  • whether the service is available, in development or planned.

It also directs users back to the official wiki before they change or configure a console. The matrix is there to help you find the right route; the detailed guides remain the source to follow step by step.

History, memory and a future for every console

The new website finally gives the project’s preservation mission a central place.

Ghost eShop is built around a simple conviction: access may disappear, but gaming culture should not disappear with it. Games, music, interfaces and online communities are all part of our cultural memory. Yet in an increasingly digital industry, the closure of an official service can turn a living catalog into an inaccessible archive almost overnight.

The shutdown of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops made that fragility impossible to ignore. A console should not become culturally obsolete simply because its original servers have gone dark.

Preservation is not only nostalgia. It is continuity: documenting software and systems, maintaining community infrastructure and using homebrew to keep older machines meaningful beyond their commercial lifecycle.

The About page now brings together this manifesto, the project’s history and its future direction:

  1. Origin, a simple CIA distribution system: Ghost eShop began with one practical purpose on Nintendo 3DS.
  2. Evolution, infrastructure, clients and new platforms: new services, APIs, console applications and servers transformed it into a much wider platform.
  3. 2026, unified under Ghost Land: 3DServer and freeShop for 3DS, Ghost eShop NX for Switch, and future legacy platforms now share one global, decentralized and multi-platform vision.

Preserve the software. Document the systems. Keep the culture alive.

This work remains collective. Developers, archivists, translators, testers and users all help preserve a shared memory that no single server closure can erase.
